What types of services can NOCturnal monitor?
NOCturnal supports TCP port checks, HTTP/HTTPS, SSH, DNS resolution, SMTP, POP3, IMAP (plain and TLS), SNMP, UDP, ICMP ping, and banner grabbing on any port. You can also set custom expected-response strings to verify a service is actually healthy, not just accepting connections.
How fast do I get alerted when something goes down?
Your dashboard updates in real-time via WebSockets — the instant a site fails its check. Email, SMS, and push notifications typically arrive within 5–15 seconds depending on the channel. You can configure consecutive-failure thresholds (default 2) to avoid false alarms from momentary glitches.
Do I need a credit card to start my trial?
No. Your 14-day free trial starts the moment you sign up. No payment info required. You'll only need to add a credit card if you want to continue after the trial ends.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Cancel from your account page anytime. If you cancel during your trial, you're never charged. If you cancel mid-month on a paid plan, you keep access until the end of your billing period.
Is my monitoring data secure?
Every connection to NOCturnal is encrypted with TLS. Your data is stored in an isolated database — no sharing between tenants. Passwords are bcrypt-hashed. We offer Google Sign-In so you can log in without creating another password. Optional 2FA coming soon.
Can I invite my team?
Yes. On the Professional plan you can invite up to 10 team members with role-based access (admin or viewer). Enterprise is unlimited. You can even assign specific sites to specific viewers — perfect for MSPs managing multiple clients.
Where does monitoring happen from?
Checks run from our Virginia datacenter. All traffic originates from a stable business-class fiber connection, so your uptime graphs reflect real reachability, not residential network jitter.
What if I need to monitor more sites than my plan allows?
Upgrade at any time from your account page. You'll only pay the prorated difference for the rest of your billing period.
Do you support SMS and push notifications?
Yes. SMS is powered by Twilio (available on Professional and Enterprise). Push notifications work on both iOS (APNs) and Android via the NOCturnal mobile app. All plans include email notifications with full SMTP customization on Professional and above.
Can I silence alerts during scheduled maintenance?
Absolutely. Set one-time or recurring maintenance windows for specific sites or groups. During a window, downed sites still show in your dashboard but no alerts are sent.
Do you offer white-label or custom branding?
